Denarius of L. Livineius Regulus

Dublin Core

Title

Denarius of L. Livineius Regulus

Subject

Money; coins (money)

Description

The obverse of the coin features an image of the head of L. Livineius Regulus, a moneyer from Republican Rome. The reverse features an image of a curule chair, a folding chair traditionally associated with administrative power in Rome, and three fasces on either side of the chair to signify authority. The full inscription LĀ·LIVINEIVS REGVLVS is found on the reverse. Both obverse and reverse feature a dotted border pattern. It is odd and noteworthy that Livineius had his face on coins he minted at a time when this was normally reserved for gods and aspiring emperors.
