Solidus of Heraclius
Heraclius is depicted on this coin due to his powerful reign and substantial influence he had on the Byzantine Empire. He is shown larger and bearded next to the smaller and beardless Heraclius Constantine- he is bearded to show his dominance. The cross between the two and on the reverse side of the coin shows the value of religion during his reign.
Christianity was important during the time of Heraclius’ reign. It had just become the sole religion of the empire and was essential to Heraclius since he recovered the True-Cross. The cross and Christianity seen on this coin represent how influential Heraclius was on this religion even though he was not a god.
The obverse and reverse of these coins shows the power and confidence Heraclius had through his reign. He had a huge influence on the religion during this time as well.
