Mars
Mars (left) is the son of Jupiter and Juno (right). He is known as the Roman God of war. He is said to love violence and conflict. Soldiers in the Roman army would pray to mars before battle asking him to fight on their side. They believed that it was Mars who picked the winners of every battle fought. In this exhibit, there is one coin with Mars on it. Emperors put Mars on coins in hope of success in all of their battles. His head is on the front of the coin wearing a helmet. It looks like he is ready to go into battle.
